The problem
The front lawn was a blank slab of grass. Nothing pulled the eye, no tree for scale, and no planting that made the yard feel designed. The owner wanted an island bed that read as a finished feature.

Work performed
We laid out the island, planted a tree sized for the space, added perennials, installed edging, and finished with mulch so the bed holds moisture and looks complete from the street.

Challenges
Island beds fail when they are too small, the tree is planted too deep, or there is no edge and the mulch migrates into the lawn. We sized the bed for the tree at maturity and cut a clean edge so mowing stays easy.
Finished result
The front lawn has an island bed with a tree, perennials, and mulch. The yard looks designed instead of empty. Same island-bed approach we use on Cedar Falls and Waterloo lots that need a focal point in the lawn.
