Landscape Installation
Walkway Landscape Beds in Cedar Falls, IA
Cedar Falls, Iowa
Plain lawn along the front walk was planted with hostas, flowers, and defined beds.
The problem
The front walk sat in plain lawn. No planting to frame the entry, nothing to soften the concrete, and a path that felt like it cut through a yard instead of leading to the door.
The property
Cedar Falls front walk with lawn on both sides, typical foundation shade for hostas, and enough width to cut beds without crowding the path.
Work performed
We cut beds along the walk, prepped soil, planted hostas and flowers, added edging, and mulched so the entry is framed from the street to the door.
Materials
- Hostas and perennials
- Hardwood mulch
- Edging
- Soil prep
Beds cut along the walk, plantings, edging, and mulch to frame the entry.
Challenges
Walkway beds get compacted by foot traffic at the edge and stay wet along concrete. We kept plantings back from the walk, used shade-tolerant plants where the house throws shadow, and edged so mowing does not chew the bed.
Finished result
The front walk is lined with planted, mulched beds. The entry looks finished. Same walkway planting we do in Cedar Falls when the path is there but the landscape is not.
