A pergola on pavers only lasts if the posts are set to the patio structure, not lagged into dirt next to a floating slab.
The property

Work performed
We installed the paver patio on a compacted aggregate base with edge restraint and polymeric sand, then set the pergola on the new hardscape so furniture has a finished floor and shade in the same build.

Challenges
Patio and pergola are one project. Post locations have to be in the paver layout before the field goes down, or you are cutting finished pavers later. The patio still has to pitch away from the house while the pergola sits square.
