Paver Driveways
Paver Driveway Replacement in Cedar Falls, IA
Cedar Falls, Iowa
Cracked concrete was replaced with a paver driveway and a contrasting border.
The problem
The concrete driveway was cracked and tired. Patching a failed slab on Iowa clay does not last. The owner wanted a driveway that could take vehicles and freeze-thaw without another round of saw-cuts and mudjacking.
The property
Cedar Falls residence with a cracked concrete drive, garage connection, and street edge that had to stay usable. Vehicle loads meant a deeper base than a patio.
Work performed
We demolished the concrete, excavated for a driveway-depth compacted aggregate base, installed driveway-grade pavers with a contrasting border course, edge restraint, and polymeric joint sand.
Materials
- Driveway-grade pavers
- Border pavers
- Compacted aggregate base
- Polymeric sand
- Edge restraint
Demo, deep compacted base, driveway-grade pavers, border course, and joint sand built for Iowa winters.
Challenges
Driveways fail at the base, not the paver. We compact in lifts and set edge restraint so the field cannot creep. The border is structural as well as visual. It locks the pattern at the garage and the street.
Finished result
Cracked concrete is gone. The new paver driveway has a contrasting border and a base built for Iowa winters. Individual units can be reset later if anything settles. That is the point of a paver drive versus another poured slab.
